Two individuals, identified as Onyebuchi Ukandu and Emmanuel Onyebuenyi, have been apprehended by the Abia State Police Command. They are said to have been members of the Mbutu/Umuojima Vigilante and were detained in the Osisioma Ngwa Local Government area of the state. The man was allegedly tortured to death.

This was disclosed in a statement made by Maureen Chinaka, the state police public relations officer, during the suspects’ parading on Friday.

Alex Ukaegbu was the site supervisor in Osisioma when he was killed.

The victim was found dead while in the hands of the suspects, who had previously shackled him and demanded payment before releasing him, according to GODZGENERALBLOG’s reporting.

According to the PRO’s statement, it was reported that on November 30 at around 9 am, the complainant was informed by phone that their elder brother, Alex Ukaegbu, who lived in the Tonimas area of Osisioma and was in charge of a construction site in the same area, had been arrested on December 29 at around 5 pm with several pieces of iron rods by members of the Mbutu/Umuojima Vigilante Unit Osisioma.

He was reportedly held captive in the office while the vigilantes negotiated his release for N50,000. Alex Ukaegbu tragically passed away while in their care.

As a result of this report, police officers were sent to the location to conduct investigations, and Alex Ukaegbu’s body was taken to Alanwemadu Mortuary Osisioma for burial.

According to the PPRO, the State Criminal Investigation Department has taken over the case and is now investigating the arrests of Emmanuel Onyebuenyi and Ukandu Onyebuchi, the commander of the vigilante group.
