Amidst allegations of absconding, Adebutu returns to Nigeria, according to Ogun

Ladi Adebutu, who ran for governor of Ogun State as a Peoples Democratic Party candidate in the last election, is back in Nigeria after a nine-month medical leave in the UK.

Through Lagos’s Murtala Muhammed International Airport, the candidate reentered Nigeria.

According to Mr. Adebutu’s media aide Afolabi Orekoya, who spoke with our reporter, Mr. Adebutu is back in the nation.

A video of Mr. Adebutu, his running mate Adekunle Akinlade, and other PDP leaders and supporters celebrating at the airport has gone viral on social media.

You may remember that during the state’s governorship election on March 18, the All Progressives Congress repeatedly accused Adebutu of trying to avoid prosecution by purchasing votes.

Just over twenty-four hours earlier, Tunde Oladunjoye—the APC State Publicity Secretary and the newly-appointed Senior Media Consultant to Governor Dapo Abiodun—made identical accusations against the PDP candidate and urged him to go back to his native country to face the consequences.

The gubernatorial candidate, however, has denied the charges on multiple occasions on video, claiming that he was in the UK for medical treatment and not an abscond.
