The club’s chairman can be replaced every five years per a formal agreement among Chelsea’s owners, Todd Boehly included.
In 2022, Boehly and Clearlake Capital acquired the Premier League club.
The United States has spent more than £1 billion on the squad since then, just in player transactions.
But that hasn’t translated into success; the Blues are presently in eleventh place.
In the last 18 months, Boehly has taken the heat from Chelsea supporters and media for the club’s poor performance.
A peculiar arrangement among the club’s higher-ups, however, has now come to light, suggesting that he may be succeeded as chairman in 2027.
Boehly, Behdad Eghbali, and Jose Feliciano, owners of Clearlake Capital, have reportedly agreed on a plan wherein they can switch roles as chairman every five years, according to the Telegraph.
Since a change is not required to occur, Boehly may be able to stay on for another five years when 2027 rolls around.
