On Saturday, sixteen members-elect for the Plateau State House of Assembly were given certificates of return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Following the Court of Appeal’s decision to overturn INEC’s earlier declaration of victory in the March 18 elections, the members-elect were officially recognized as the winners.

Of the 16 members-elect, 15 were members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), while one was a member of the Labour Party.

The Plateau INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Oliver Agundu, stated that the process complied with the instructions given by the Appeal Court.

Agundu stated that the lawmakers should be granted certificates of return as the real winners of the elections, as mandated by the Appeal Court.

As they prepared to serve the state, he wished the newly elected lawmakers well and congratulated them on their achievement.

The APC state chairman, Chief Rufus Bature, stated that the victory in the appeal court reinforced the election process and deepened democracy in Nigeria.

Bature told the legislators not to make fun of the other parties in the state and to be gracious when they win.

At all times, Plateau’s interests will take precedence. Democracy, in our view, is all about us, and no one else.

In his address to the group, he emphasized the importance of using Plateau as a springboard for future endeavors.

Mr. Sunday Naah, who is being elected as the representative for Jos North West, expressed his awareness of the high expectations held by the general public and his commitment to fully contributing to the development of both his constituency and the state as a whole.
