Change in Suitability Test Venue Sparks New Protest at OAUTHC

The refusal of management to reconsider the judgment has led more than 1,500 staff who were fired from their jobs at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC) in Ile-Ife to renew their protest.
Friday morning saw a gathering of the protesting workers at the hospital grounds.

In addition to blocking pedestrian and vehicular access to the hospital, the irate employees locked the main gates.

Based on what GODZGENERALBLOG has learned, the employees were demonstrating against management’s plan to move the location of the suitability test for a small number of potential employees.

In February, approximately 2,000 employees were let go by the hospital’s administration. This move came after the federal government uncovered allegations of job racketeering among some members of the medical establishment’s management.

In a show of discontent, the impacted workers rushed the test site and halted the exercise.

After the demonstration, security guards and demonstrators clashed on the hospital grounds, leading to the arrest and subsequent release of several employees.

The hospital allegedly hired the staff members between the years 2022 and 2023.

The management issued a circular on March 7, 2024, asking all workers who applied for the following positions: Hospital Consultants, Dental Technologists, Registrars, Health Attendants, Medical Officers, Administrative Officers, Pharmacist, Accountant, Nursing Officers, Health Records Officer, Radiographers, Assistant Catering Officer, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Program/System Analyst, Physiotherapist, Motor Driver/Mechanic, Dietician, Assistant Craftsman, Medical Laboratory Technologist/Technician, Assistant Technical Officer (Electrical and Biomedical), Health Records Technologist/Technician, to gather at the Command Day Secondary School, Army Barrack, Ara Road, Ede, Osun State, on March 9, 2024, to provide their suitability tests.

When the fired employees found out that the interview and test had been moved to a military facility, they banded together and urged their coworkers not to go.

In a document titled “Re: Implementation of the Year 2022 Approved Waiver,” management noticed a problem.The Federal Ministry of Health & Social Welfare in Abuja has been granted permission by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation to conduct and conclude the recruitment exercise in June 2022, as a result of the crisis that ensued after the previously scheduled interview.

“Accordingly, the details for the suitability test are as follows; Site: Army Barracks, Ara Road, Command Day Secondary School, Ede, Osun State.

Saturday, March 9th, 2024 is the date.

“Queue Time: 7:00 in the morning.

At the event, please bring the following documents in their original forms as well as copies:

“I (Hp Pencil),” “ii) Appointment Letter(s);” (iii) References; (iii) Proof of Age or Birth Certificate;”

A statement written by the protesting workers’ coordinator, Adeyinka Owolade, demanded an emergency congress.

The demonstrators gathered at the hospital’s entrance, locked it, and demanded that the administration re-engage them.
