The Federal Government is dedicated to achieving Nigeria’s foreign policy goals, according to Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.

During his presentation at the 2023 annual event hosted by the Association of Retired Career Ambassadors of Nigeria, Tuggar made this revelation on Thursday in Abuja.

Professor Anthony Asiwaju, an esteemed authority on border studies, presided over the presentation titled “The Nigerian Foreign Policy Agenda Under the Tinubu Administration.”

Some people think Nigeria doesn’t need a foreign policy, while others think the government should set goals for its foreign policy, according to the foreign minister.

In order to get things rolling, Tuggar stated, “As such, my starting point is to define foreign policy,” which is, basically, the way the government chooses to accomplish its aims in its interactions with other entities.

Steve Smith, an expert in international relations, and his fellow travelers characterized it in this way: in relation to policy itself.

He brought attention to Nigeria’s foreign policy goals, stating that they are firmly entrenched in the Constitution and so cannot be changed.

He elaborated by saying that safeguarding and advancing Nigeria’s national interest are the goals.
