According to the Presidency, Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), would have been executed if he were a Chinese national.
Emefiele and his gangs engaged in heinous acts of appropriation that would be condemned in China, according to Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu.
Responses from Onanuga were in response to the report of the Special Investigation into CBN and Related Entities, Chargeable Offenses.
While serving as governor of the CBN, Emefiele was indicted for embezzlement in a report by Jim Obazee.
The ex-governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria allegedly opened bank accounts without consulting the top bank’s investment committee and board of directors, according to the report.
Emefiele allegedly stashed billions of naira in 593 accounts throughout the US, UK, and China, all without permission, according to the investigation.
Without proper authorization, Obazee revealed that Emefiele had placed £543,482,213 in fixed deposits with banks in the United Kingdom.
“Godwin Emefiele and his gang should be facing the firing squad for high treason by now if they had committed these egregious misappropriations in China,” Onanuga said in a post on X.
