Muhammad Yakasai is appointed as the new VC of Jigawa University by Governor Namadi

Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa, SLU’s new VC, Professor Muhammad Ibrahim Yakasai, has received approval from Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi.

Malam Bala Ibrahim, secretary to the government of Jigawa state, signed a statement containing this information.

In accordance with the provisions of the statute creating the institution, the statement stated that the selection of the new Vice-Chancellor was based on the recommendations of the institution’s Governing Council.

Professor Yakasai has a doctorate in educational psychology and was previously the head of the department’s quality assurance committee at Bayero University in Kano.

Undergraduate and graduate teaching experience, extensive supervision of high quality, and fruitful interdisciplinary collaboration are all hallmarks of the incoming VC’s background.

The high caliber of his publications in scholarly journals attests to his impressive record of study.

He has done research in both his primary field of study and a related one: human resource management strategies for local government administration.

Academic leadership and community involvement were hallmarks of Professor Yakasai’s tenure as Bayero University’s former dean of graduate studies.

Professor Yakasai has held several leadership positions at his alma mater, including department head, dean of the faculty of education, and deputy dean of the department of student affairs.

The incoming VC was born in 1960 in Garun Gabas, Malam Madori LGA.

He started his academic career in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education (Education/History) from Bayero University, Kano. In 1991, he got a Master of Education (Educational Psychology) and in 2000, he earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Educational Psychology from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.

He started working at Bayero University, Kano in 1991 and worked his way up to dean, departmental quality assurance committee chairman in 2021.

He has memberships in the Nigerian Academy of Education and the Counseling Association of Nigeria, in addition to being a professor of educational psychology.

The new Vice Chancellor’s appointment will be effective as of December 5, 2023, according to the release.
