According to the Abia State Police Command, they have carefully placed officers around the state to ensure the safety of its citizens both before and during the festive season.

The command has stated that a conspicuous police presence at different places of worship and event centers is part of the operational strategy.

“There will be raids on recognized high-risk areas, unfinished structures, stop-and-search operations, vehicular/foot patrols, and collaborative efforts among sister security agencies in the state,” stated the Abia State Police Command in a press release signed by ASP Maureen Chinaka, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Commissioner of Police.

The statement went on to say that the state’s ban on knockout fireworks, which the commissioner of police, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, has reiterated due to concerns for public safety.

It stressed that, especially during the harmattan season, fire crackers could divert attention away from more important matters, opening the door to more criminal activity and fire disasters.
