Soldiers free 52 hostages in Sokoto

The 52 hostages were freed by the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation Hadarin Daji, OPHD, in a well-coordinated and fruitful operation in the Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Army officials announced the move on their official X account, explaining that it was part of a larger effort to clear their respective Areas of Responsibility of terrorist positions.

According to the statement, the operation took place on December 22, 2023, when the towns of Saruwa, Kubuta, and Gundumi as well as the Bunwanga Gundumi forest in Isa LGA were cleared and terrorist enclaves were destroyed.

“The operation resulted in the successful rescue of 52 kidnapped victims and the neutralization of multiple terrorists,” the statement read.

“The rescued victims, consisting of fourteen men, thirty-two women, and six children, will be checked over by medical professionals, briefed, and then turned over to the proper authorities so they can be reunited with their families,” the statement read.
