The 7-day warning strike by SSANU and NASU has begun

In the wake of the nationwide strike that occurred in 2022, two unions—the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU)—have issued a 7-day warning strike in order to seek the return of four months’ worth of payments that were withheld from their members.

Following a meeting over the weekend in Akure, the two unions’ joint action committee reached this decision as part of their resolution.

This was announced by SSANU President Mohammed Ibrahim on Monday while delivering the meeting’s communiqué to journalists in Abuja.

Ibrahim said that going on the warning strike was a final choice after numerous attempts to get the federal government to refund the withheld wages through protest letters and other means had failed.

This came after the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) recently staged statewide rallies in response to the high cost of living and other economic challenges facing the country.
