The Osun State Government has recognized Dr. Ademola Makinde as the next Owa of Igbajo.

Dr. Makinde’s clearance was announced on Monday morning by the Osun State Executive Council.

In a statement, Kolapo Alimi—the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment of Osun State—contained the appointment.

In addition, the statement confirmed that the nomination, as submitted by the Boluwaduro Local Government, was authorized following the proper procedures, laws, and traditions of the chieftaincy.

Following chieftaincy law and tradition, the kingmakers had previously given their approval to Dr. Makinde.

The new Owa of Igbajo was congratulated by Governor Ademola Adeleke during the Executive Meeting, who also charged him with mending the rifts caused by the selection process by promoting inclusive traditional administration.

May the newly installed Owa of Igbajo be honored. “I implore him to initiate a process of healing and to reinstate the honor and credibility of the age-old institution,” the governor reportedly said.

A White Paper recommended a new selection process in January, and Dr. Makinde’s nomination as Owa is the result.

The Adegboyega Oyetola government appointed Adegboyega Famodun, the former APC chairman of Osun state, in November 2022.

However, upon taking office, Governor Ademola Adeleke used an Executive Order to halt the processes.
