Wike vs. Fubara: Protests in Support of Rivers Gov. by NANS, TUC, and Others

During the confrontation between Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, the organized labor has placed its support behind Fubara.

Protesters at Port Harcourt included members of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Labour Centres (ITC), Traders, and others.

Wike and Fubara have grown apart over the political make-up of Rivers State.

After threats of impeachment were made against Fubara, 27 members loyal to Wike in the Rivers State House of Assembly switched to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Roughly seven commissioners resigned as a result of the power struggle between the individuals.

After presenting an eight-point settlement, President Bola Tinubu attempted to end the conflict by having Wike and Fubara sign a peace accord.

After Tinubu got involved, the state assembly decided not to impeach Fubara.
